High Speed Preserves Filler

In 2003, we carried out the installation of a 30 head high speed rotary piston filler, for the filling of jams and marmalades at Premier Foods factory at Histon, near Cambridge.

Operating at speeds in excess of 450cpm, on a range of jars of up to 2lbs.  The machine was integrated into an existing line and then close-coupled to a glass jar inverter/rinser, which was driven by the filler itself.

The machine is handling several jar sizes, having different diameters and shapes and changeover is easily carried out in a very short down time, as the infeed scroll does not have to be replaced and each filling station has adjustable pincers to hold the jars with self adjustment, so that no changeparts are required to cover the entire range of containers.

The height of the filling carousel and the volume of fill were automatically adjustable by calling up the product/container code from the operator touch screen.

The valve arrangement on the filler enables it to handle homogenous products, as well as jams and marmalades with particulates of fruit, achieving very high accuracy with small standard deviations.

The unit was designed for quick and efficient cleaning, this being achieved by the elimination of sharp corners that can come in contact with the product and using FDA certified materials and seals of the latest design.

We have also delivered other filling machines of this type to Premier Foods at their Bury St Edmunds site for filling their range of pickles and sauces.
